30 Big Announcements for Dollywood in 2015

2015 will be an exciting year at Dollywood as they celebrate their 30th anniversary and plan to introduce or announce 30 new additions throughout the year! So far they have announced improvements to the parking & transportation shuttles. They announced a brand new event called Rock the Smokies, which will take place Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015. Rock the Smokies is a Christian Music Festival, featuring Third Day, For King & Country, and more artists that will be announced later. Dollywood has a special website setup at that has more details, tickets for purchase, and more!

The biggest addition to Dollywood this year is the opening of the DreamMore Resort later in the summer. This gorgeous new resort will offer Dolly’s unique flair on a vacation to the Smoky Mountains. We’ve got a whole article full of photos of the new Dollywood Resort hotel that you can view by clicking here.

Another huge announcement they recently made is that they are bringing back the Showcase of Stars concert series, which will kick off with Dolly Parton herself performing 2 concerts a day on August 8 & 9, 2015! This will be the first time Dolly has performed a concert at Dollywood in over 10 years. They will announce other performers and dates throughout the season, so check Dollywood’s official page for more details. There will be tickets sold separately for these special concerts and proceed will benefit Dolly’s Imagination Library.

Dolly also threw out some pretty big hints for some announcements coming late summer about more expansions. She said, “We’ve got more land, and we’ve got more space, and we’ve got more dreams…We’ll be announcing a few more things we’re going to do in expansion.” We’ve heard a pretty amazing rumor of what the big announcement will be, and if it holds true then trust us…it will be BIG. I don’t want to give it away, but inside sources tell us that it will be in the price range of the Wild Eagle, which puts it around $20 million! They’ve also said, that it will be “one of the biggest single attraction additions in our 30-year history for 2016.” So yeah, 2015 is full of great announcements, but 2016 sounds like it will be incredible!

UPDATE: We’ve pieced together some clues and our original sources sound to be spot-on! We’ve uncovered a trademark filing for the phrase “SHOT ROD”, which has been registered by Herschend Family Entertainment Corporation (they own Dollywood). The trademark filing states that it is “Entertainment services in the nature of an amusement park ride, namely, a roller coaster with a classic car theme”. We already know that construction is being done in the 50’s section at Dollywood and there is a rumor that the Rockin’ Roadway (classic cars popular with children) will potentially be removed at some point this year, so we piece all of that together to take an educated guess that Dollywood is building about a $20 million roller coaster in the 50’s section that will be called “SHOT ROD” which has a hot rod theme! To further solidify this guess, we also came across this video teaser for Dollywood’s 2016 season that “The Coaster Crew” posted on YouTube:

As for what type of coaster it will be, we aren’t sure. Our assumption is that it will be a “launch” coaster of some sorts that goes from zero to fast in flash.

Of course…I could be completely wrong about all of this, but I always withhold my rumors and news until I can get them verified as much as possible, and all of this is lining up to be true…we’ll know for sure when Dollywood officially announces it later this summer! We’ve got a full article with pictures for the new Dollywood roller coaster for 2016 as well.

As Dollywood reveals more of their 30 announcements throughout the year, we’ll update this article so keep checking back or make sure you’re signed up for our free email newsletter to get the scoop!

    • Pigeon Forge TN Guide says

Hi Karen, Dolly normally makes an appearance at Dollywood the day after the Dolly Parade. In 2013, the Dolly Parade is scheduled for May 10, which means she *should* be at the park May 11. Of course, nothing is “official” so be sure to check with Dollywood for confirmation of that as we get closer to May.

  1. Patricia Crain says

Are you going to have the Gospel Singers this year? I have some papers that tell me who is going to be there and then I get this ad that does not list any of the people that will be there.
I bought two season tickets just so we could come and see the ones that we like if they are coming, that is the reason I asked you this question. Thank you!!

  2. Joan Maxwell says

Will the steel pan players ever be back to Festival of Nations. They are my favorites and I miss them very much!!!

  3. Barbie says

Why does Dollywood not offer a discount to their faithful renewing pass holders? Just curious seeing how all other theme parks do. Also the hours for June this year are the same as they were last year. We were really hoping they would be open past 7:00.

  4. Elva says

Year before last they had a show that was about the Smokies. It wasn’t there last year. Do you know when it will be back as I want my Grandson to see the show. Also do you give discounts for Metro employees as I work for the schools in Nashville,TN

  5. Tammy Lewis says

Are there carts to rent for the handicapped and disabled? Someone told me there are. If there are how much are they?

    • Terry says

Yes there are carts for the disabled and it is first come first served. The cost is not bad I think $25 if I am not mistaken.

  6. Diane says

We’ll be in Pigeon Forge only a few days and are planning a trip to Dollywood. Are there any “best day of the week” to go?

  7. Carla says

I’m trying to find discount admission tickets for Dollywood for or visit in October. I come to this site and it says to see the Dollywood coupon & ticket discount guide with a link. I click on the link which gives some of the same info & a link that takes me back to the first page. How do I get one of these guides with discounts & does have any discounts for Dollywood admission?

  8. Amy says

When will the 2014 season passes be available for purchase? In the past, I know you could purchase a season pass in November and use it the rest of that season and the entire season the following year.

  9. Barry and Naidne says

We love DOLLYWOOD, and have been there for Fall Foliage and Christmas times. What is going on the week end of Easter? We have never been there then! What kinds of shows do they have for that weekend? Thanks for any info you can give to us!
    Love Tennessee!
    Love Dollywood!

  10. SteveRx says

I’m disappointed DW won’t be open more during the Christmas show season. The park is overwhelmed during this time and the staff simply cannot handle the crowds, not enough tram drivers, the “line directors” for the shows get confused and mess up the lines (didn’t think that was possible until I had it happen on NYD 2014). I was very disappointed in her attitude – I expect better. As a season ticket holder, I am flexible on days to come, and KNOW I don’t want to go on Sat/Sun. But the crowds on Th/F are just as thick now with their limited open days.

  11. lucy helm says

they need a tram for older people in the park that brings there grandkids we went last year and going up the mountian i thought i would die but thats were my grands wanted to go a small train would be awesome or tram that was our first time going and we came out of the park planning the next year trip please consider this

    • AB says

I agree, they need a tram or something to help people around the park. I’m 60 and I have health conditions that I will have a hard time. There are so many more people like myself. I would like to visit Dollywood, but I know it will be to much for me.

  14. Sue daniels says

love Dollywood but want to come in October for the Gospel Quartet singing.need to know schedule so we can make plans

  15. Jim Sorrells says

When is the Bluegrass and Bar-B-Que? We buy season passes for this show. Why does it take so long to post the line-up and dates? Silver dollar City already has. We would just go there, but it is a bit far.

    • Stephen says

A news report for the new coaster said it will be, but I haven’t seen hours posted. I’m guessing open at 10 and close at 6 or 7
