Paula Deen Opening a Show in Pigeon Forge!
Pigeon Forge will soon have another show with a popular blonde, southern lady’s name in the title…only this time it’s not Dolly Parton…it’s Paula Deen! Her company is bringing back the popular Lumberjack Feud in a brand new venue. When Dolly Parton’s company purchased the original Lumberjack Feud and converted it to Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Adventures, many visitors have missed the skillful lumberjack competition that was removed from the show. Well, the lumberjacks have heard those comments and are fired up to come back with exciting new competitions! In addition to the show, Paula Deen’s Lumberjack Feud will feature an extreme zipline roller coaster, 80 foot jump tower, multi-level lumberjack-themed adventure park, and an exciting kid’s aerial playground! We have details on opening date, location, and renderings below.
Where is Paula Deen’s Lumberjack Feud
Paula Deen’s Lumberjack Feud will be located at Walden’s Landing on the Parkway in Pigeon Forge, which is located directly across from The Track. The venue is replacing Firehouse Golf that is in the outdoor, middle area within the Walden’s Landing shops. The actual address is 2530 Parkway Pigeon Forge, TN 37863. It will feature a 350-person outdoor venue with padded seating under a covered, climate-controlled grandstand designed for the guests’ comfort. The show will operate rain or shine with the season running Spring through December. The lumberjacks will perform daily with show times and reservations available soon.
What Will Paula Deen’s Lumberjack Feud Be Like?
First of all, even though Paula Deen’s name is on the show, it will not be a dinner show. The good thing about that is it should help lower the cost of tickets, which should make it one of the more affordable shows to watch in town.
Audience members will be treated to an unforgettable experience as they journey back in time to the days before the establishment of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park when the logging industry ruled the area. The show features an “end-of-season” feud between two families whose names were synonymous with the timber business – the Dawsons and the McGraws. World-class lumberjacks represent both families in a variety of thrilling, fast-paced tests of skill and prowess ranging from chopping and axe throwing to tree climbing and log rolling.
There are currently 11 different events planned for the lumberjack competition, which will feature skills that you will not find anywhere else in the Smokies! Renowned lumberjacks, including Mark Bouquin and Derek Knutson, will wow fans with their sheer strength and speed. Guests become part of the experience as they join in the competitive spirit, cheering for their Dawson or McGraw lumberjack family. And children are invited to try their hand at cross-cutting with a lumberjack during the show’s intermission!
Mark Bouquin, co-winner of FOX’s “American Grit” reality show, competed as a lumberjack on the collegiate logging team at Paul Smith’s College in the Adirondacks. Following graduation, Bouquin competed in timbersports professionally in New York, Alaska and British Columbia.
A second-generation lumberjack, Derek Knutson, at age 4, was taught to log roll by his mother, a professional log roller. Knutson boasts the titles of three-time Iron Jack Champion (featuring log rolling, chopping, sawing and speed climbing) and two-time World Champion Speed Climber. He recently competed on Discovery Channel’s “American Tarzan” show filmed on the remote Caribbean island of Dominica, where seven contestants were challenged with not only surviving the wild but also mastering it while living off the land and traversing brutal obstacles.
“I’m fired up to be part of Paula Deen’s Lumberjack Feud. We have some of the most talented athletes from around the country who are ready to get Pigeon Forge back into the action and family-friendly competition of timbersports,” said Knutson, Lumberjack Feud Show Manager. “Our new show is going to bring back some events that have been long-standing crowd favorites while introducing new events that are really going to get the audience jacked up!”
Paula Deen’s Lumberjack Feud Opening Date
The “official” word from the company is that the show will open in “late spring”. The last day of spring is June 20, so if you plan to visit Pigeon Forge after that, you should be able to see the show. When they confirm a specific date and open reservations, we will update this article.
