Dixie Removed From Pigeon Forge!
Shocking news hit Pigeon Forge this week from Dolly Parton’s World Choice Investments LLC, which operates the numerous attractions and shows that contain Dolly’s name. They announced that they are dropping the word “Dixie” from their most popular dinner show, Dixie Stampede! It will now just be known as “Dolly Parton’s Stampede.”
World Choice Investments LLC put out a press release attempting to explain the namechange by stating that it is due to the expansion of their shows and to “remove any confusion or concerns about our shows and will help our efforts to expand into new cities.”
There have been no changes to the actual show mentioned yet, but their press release states “the production team is hard at work updating the existing shows for 2018.”
They have already removed Dixie from their website address as it is now https://dpstampede.com. Their logo and everything else has been updated as well to reflect the new name. The Dixie Belle Saloon has been changed to “Saloon” and the “Dixie Belles” are now just referred to as “Belles”. They have literally removed every reference to “Dixie” throughout their new website. Even the show information doesn’t mention anything about competition between the North & South (just refers to a “Main Event”) or anything in reference to Dixie or the Civil War. We’ll have to wait until they reopen for the season on January 19 to see what changes have been made to the show.
“Dixie” is history.
Video Interview with Director of Media and PR
In an interview with local news station WATE, World Choice Investment’s Director of Media and Public Relations, Pete Owens, stated that “The show itself was never about the Civil War. It was really about that good nature competition and the idea of trying to involve the audience…It clearly showed that there was a misconception as to what our show was about.”

For anyone thinking this is a joke or that they’ll change their mind…here is photo proof, which was posted on facebook by area resident Clifford Joyner.
Reactions to Dixie Being Removed
We have been covering the Smoky Mountains since 2006 and we have never seen this big of a response about anything in our area. We were blown away by the passionate response of visitors regarding the name change. We were first to break the news and our facebook post went on to be seen by 2 MILLION people and this page has been shared over 100,000 times! It’s clear that the name change makes far more sense to the decision makers within World Choice Investments LLC than it does to their target audience. Here is our original facebook post below with thousands of comments.
Oh, and be sure to LIKE our facebook page if you haven’t done so already…we often have the latest breaking news of things going on in Pigeon Forge and we post it to Facebook FIRST!
A quick word about Dolly Parton
We have seen a lot of harsh criticism directed at Dolly over the past few days. First off, Dolly has been a tremendous part of growth in our community and has provided numerous sources of family entertainment that attracts visitors and has provided thousands of jobs over the years. Her heart & involvement with the victims of the wildfires are also not forgotten. Her creation and continuation of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has helped to develop literacy and a love of reading in children that began in Sevier County and now reaches as far as Australia.
While this one business decision is attempting to overshadow what Dolly has done and who she is as a person, we encourage everyone to step back and see her life as whole…and that this controversial business decision was likely an attempt to do what she has always done…show love to all.
A quick word about Pigeon Forge
We have also seen criticism directed at Pigeon Forge regarding this decision. To clear things up a bit, the city of Pigeon Forge nor the thousands of other businesses within it have nothing whatsoever to do with this decision. Dixie Stampede is privately owned by World Choice Investments LLC whose only other show in town in Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Adventures. Dolly nor World Choice Investments LLC have any involvement in any other shows.
We simply ask that you do not associate your opinions of this decision with the rest of the town. If their name change has offended, please know that there are plenty of other shows to see and things to do in our area! 🙂
