New Dollywood Rides, Shows, and Festivals for 2017!
Dollywood adds something new and exciting each year, and they have announced their new additions for 2017! They are adding two brand new rides to Dollywood, a fascinating new show, an addition to their popular fall festivals, and a new waterslide at Splash Country! All of this is part of the 300 million dollar investment Dollywood announced in 2013. Below, we break down what we know about each of these high-anticipated additions to Dollywood in 2017.
Drop Line Drop Tower
The biggest (literally) addition to Dollywood in 2017 is a massive 200 foot drop tower called “Drop Line”, which will be located in Timber Canyon near the Thunderhead roller coaster. If you remember the short-lived Timber Tower ride, this new drop tower will be located exactly where that was. Drop Line will slowly raise riders 200 feet into the air for an incredible view of the park and Smokies. Then, riders will free-fall down the tower for an exhilarating experience! Many theme park enthusiasts have been hoping and begging for Dollywood to add a drop tower…and they will get their wish in Summer 2017!
Whistle Punk Chaser Roller Coaster
Dollywood will be adding a new roller coaster designed for children called “Whistle Punk Chaser” in Summer 2017. Whistle punk is a lumberjack term, so our assumption is that this new “junior” roller coaster will be located in Timber Canyon near Thunderhead. There is currently an often-missed children’s play area nestled within the shadows of Thunderhead (it’s likely you didn’t know that!), so we are speculating that this new coaster would replace that play area. With this new coaster for children and the new drop tower, Timber Canyon will have a refreshing new appeal in Summer 2017!
TailSpin Racer Water Slide
Dollywood’s Splash Country is adding an exciting new waterslide called “TailSpin Racer”, which will be five stories tall and a football field’s length of slides. There will be six side-by-side slides where people can race each other to the bottom. We have a full article on this fantastic new waterslide, so be sure to check it out!
GREAT Pumpkin LumiNights
The fall festival at Dollywood is already one of the most amazing times to visit Dollywood with the music, crafts, food, and so much more. In 2017, Dollywood will extend park hours into the evening for the first time to introduce the new “GREAT Pumpkin LumiNights”, which Dollywood says will immerse families in fabulous fall pumpkin illumination. We can’t wait to see this!
New Show – enra
Dollywood has a history of bringing incredibly talented performers to the park offering shows that are included in the price of park admissions. In 2017, the amazing “enra” will be perform beginning around Spring Break. This group describes what they do as “motion graphics performing arts”. We’d describe it as mesmerizing. In 2015, they featured their high-energy multi-media dance, light and video fusion show on America’s Got Talent. Rather than try and explain what they do, check out their video below with some of their highlights!
Final Thoughts on Dollywood 2017 Additions
Dollywood always seems to find a way to lure us into renewing our season passes…and 2017 is no exception! We’re most looking forward to the new drop tower and seeing enra perform LIVE. What are you most looking forward to riding or seeing at Dollywood in 2017? Let us know in the comments below!

I would wait before buying any tickets to Dollywood in 2017 thinking all this new things would be true. They claimed to open Lightening Rod in March of 2016 and I have had season tickets for years. I have been this year about 15 times and the new ride has never been open. Will not renew my season tickets next year.
My comment is…will these rides be actually opened in 2017. I purchased my season pass this year in anticipation of riding Lightning Rod and have yet been able to. It never even opened until September and now every time I get a chance to go on the weekends it is closed for the day! Why would it not be open on a Saturday! When I called all they said was it was closed. I asked if it was still having technical difficulties and they just said, “No, mam it is just closed. Dollywood should think about compensating pass holders of 2016 for the 2017 passes, since we never got to enjoy the new ride they talked about for a year. I am apprehensive to purchase a season pass for 2017 as the same thing may happen.
Hello my name is Hiram Rodriguez and wanted to know if you have the dates for 2017. When Dolly is going to at the park. I wanted to plan a visit so I can meet Dolly. This is number one of my bucket list.
Who cares if they are operating or not.Its a great place and has so much to offer. To me a few closed rides are no big deal.I love the place.
Me and my teenagers have Been in line for hour and a half on three different occasions and have yet to ride it , every time we get up to the platform they closed it . This last time it was a hypochondriac saying she had a headache and felt faint ! The other two times there was no explanation ! I love Dollywood , but , if it’s safe let it roll , don’t stop for every hypochondriac bubble wrapped ignoramus !
The problem is that if you are waiting in line for a ride they close Willy nilly , you can’t love every minute with the little members on rides that are open especially when they close the doors so early that it’s still daylight . I agree Dollywood is a great place and we are spoiled to have this place in our backyard, but , little kids don’t understand that. I commend the park on all they are doing especially the sensor room but, closing early on warm fall days with daylight ,and this new rollercoaster fiasco? Hersenend entertainment in words of the old health score lady on the news “clean it up”
